Three myths about cat grooming

Cats need grooming too — but not the way most people think.

Myth 1: Cats groom themselves, so they don’t need a groomer. Cats groom the surface. They can’t reach mats deep in the coat, and long-haired cats almost always need help. Even short-haired cats benefit from a nail trim and ear check.

Myth 2: A shave is the kind option for a matted cat. Sometimes — but not always. A skilled groomer can often comb out moderate matting without shaving. We only shave when the welfare math is clear, and we’ll tell you honestly.

Myth 3: Cats can’t be groomed without sedation. Most can, with the right setup: a quiet room, no other animals, slow handling, and a groomer who reads the cat. We see one cat at a time for exactly this reason.
